Board overview

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (GP106-400-A1, TSMC 16nm FinFET). PCIe 3.0 x16, single 6-pin power connector, GDDR5 memory (Samsung K4G80325FB or Hynix). The power architecture uses a multi-rail VRM with uP9512 as the main VCore PWM controller.

Power rails reference

Rails listed in measurement priority order — start at the top. Each rail must be present before the next can be generated.

Rail name Voltage Notes & fault hints
1V8_AON 1.8 V Always-on rail derived from PCIe slot 3.3 V or 6-pin aux. First rail to check — powers uP9512 and all standby logic.
NVVDD ~1.0 V GPU VCore. Generated by uP9512 multi-phase VRM from PCIe 12 V. Short to GND = blown MOSFET phase.
FBVDD 1.0 V GPU framebuffer voltage. Separate from NVVDD on some board variants.
MSVDD 1.8 V GDDR5 memory VDD. If missing: NCP81174 or AOZ1238 fault.
NVVDD_FB 0.1–1 V Feedback sense from NVVDD to uP9512. Used for load-line regulation.
PCIe 12 V 12 V Main power input from 6-pin connector and PCIe slot. Measure at first.
PCIe 3.3 V 3.3 V PCIe slot reference rail. Powers 1V8_AON via step-down.

Common failure zones

Most likely failures first. Each entry gives a symptom and the immediate diagnostic action.

Card dead — no fan spin
Measure PCIe 12 V and 3.3 V at connector. If OK, check 1V8_AON. If 1V8_AON missing: AOZ1238 or enable resistor open.
Fan spins, no display
NVVDD present? If yes, check display output ICs. If NVVDD missing: uP9512 not enabling. Check PG signal and enable pin.
Short on NVVDD (0Ω to GND)
Failed VCore MOSFET. Disconnect drain from 12 V rail. Measure MOSFET in-circuit. Replace failed phase MOSFET.
Black screen artifacts under load
GDDR5 failure. Check MSVDD stability under load. Reseat memory impossible — BGA reball or replacement.
Intermittent — works cold
Thermal paste dried on GP106 die. Also check VRM thermal pad contact on the back of PCB.
